These young girls in “Al Farq” school for teaching Quran are wearing traditional Omani clothes and jewelry. The girl on the right is wearing a necklace called “Khitmah” which is a decorated box containing special verses from the holy Quran or words of protection. She is also wearing an anklet called “Nittal”. On her forehead is a paste made of turmeric which is used in traditional medicine for headaches, fever and general wellbeing.
