This is a photograph of a mother and her son. She is wearing the traditional outfit for Sur which is comprised of several layers: the colorful dress (called Kandourah) with the black translucent cloth on top (called Breism Dreyahi) and intricately embroidered trousers (Sirwal). The jewelry of Sur is also distinct: the necklace (called Murriyah and is similar to the Murriyah also seen in Dhofar); the earrings (called Ghalamiyat) and the nose ring (called Aous). She is also wearing bangles called Majafeen Benghari. This dress was likely handmade which is still the tradition today when this outfit is worn for formal occasions. She is mixing Henna in the bowls in front of her and her son standing behind her is wearing more modern clothes rather than the Omani dishdasha.
