The picture was taken in Al Mada district in Wilayat Nizwa and borders with “Al Mawadein”. School girls are seen coming back from their school day with their book bags balanced on their heads. This was a new right granted to girls under the new modernized Omani government as there were no schools for girls before 1970. Schools could sometimes be up to an hour’s walk away from home for these girls and we see them in this photograph walking on the side of a road that has not yet been paved.
